EACU County Chess

With congresses thin on the ground this coming season there’s a good opportunity for county chess to flourish. They’re competitive and convivial with the option of the winners to proceed to ECF national stages held around May and June 2022.
The EACU (East Anglia Chess Union) organises county otb chess matches to teams from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs, Beds & Herts.
There are typically 4 to 8 matches a season held on Sundays, usually in Newmarket. They’ve a popular format – two matches a day. One in the morning another in the afternoon.
The ratings limits are:
u2050 (u180)
u1850 (u153)
u1650 (u126)
u1450 (u100)

Matches are played over 12 boards (down from 16 boards).
The default time control is 36 moves in 80 minutes, followed by 15 minutes to finish the game, with an increment of 15 seconds per move from move one. If both captains agree, an alternative time control of 90 minutes with an increment of 15 seconds per move from move one may be used.
We have a potential captain for a u1850 team. Captains for the other teams will be found from the team members.
Register your interest please by midnight Tuesday 24th August. No need to commit yet.

The SCCU (Southern Counties Chess Union) also organises regional chess. This time to teams from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Sussex. I’ve yet to learn of any of their plans.
