We competed as usual in the EACU qualifiers held at Newmarket. Based on rating, our squad was the strongest in recent times. The tournament consists of two matches against each of the other three teams – Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.Two matches are played on each of three Sundays.
The contest went down to the wire and on the final match day Herts were pipped into third place by Norfolk and Suffolk; both counties went on to reach the national semi-finals before being eliminated.
With an impressive 5/6 on board one, Tim Watson of St Albans Juniors won the Tom Wright trophy.
Matt Ball will stand for this role for 2026-27.

2024
Match report: EACU – Herts CA U1850 Team – On March 3rd our 16 board team, captained by Matt Ball, first defeated Cambridge CCA 10 – 6 then went on to beat Norfolk CCA 10.5 – 5.5. These results, our best of the season, put us through to the ECF County Championships Final Stages 2024. In the Quarter Finals we play Kent on Saturday 11th May starting 12:30pm.
